Synology today launched the Synology DiskStation DS411j, a 4-bay full-featured NAS server dedicated to backups and data sharing and available at an attractive price tag for home and small office users. Together with recently debuted DiskStation Manager 3.0 (DSM 3.0), the operating system renowned for its intuitive interface, users can manage their data systematically and enjoy multimedia content to their heart’s content.
Equipped with 1.2GHz and less than 3 watts CPU, the Synology DS411j is powerful yet energy-efficient. The fully loaded DS411j consumes merely 42.9W in operation and even 16W when it hibernates, which facilitates extension of hard drive life as well. Power consumption can be further decreased by scheduling power on and off. The DS411j comes with 128MB DDRII RAM, one Gigabit LAN port and two USB ports.
“This multitalented and affordable DS411j is ideal for home users who need a storage and multimedia center to backup data and to enjoy their digital content via different gadgets,” said Chad Jiang, product manager of Synology Inc. The DS411j works seamlessly with smart phones such as iPhone® and Android phones, making terabytes of multimedia content easily available at users’ fingertips. In addition to the ubiquitous access, mobile devices’ users can upload their photos and videos to the DS411j. Compliant with DLNA and UPnP DMA, the DS411j makes it easy to stream multimedia files to a TV set and a stereo system. Furthermore, users can turn off their computers while the DS411j handles uploads and downloads automatically.
This versatile DS411j is also a great fit for home and small business users to share and backup files across Windows®, Linux, and Mac®. Synology Data Replicator 3 application allows Windows users effortlessly to back up their desktop data and emails while Mac’s users can leverage Apple’s Time Machine® to backup to the DS411j. The unique Synology Hybrid RAID technology empowers users with very little RAID knowledge to optimize their storage capacity and secure data redundancy. Encrypted data transmission, HTTPS, the built-in firewall, and IP auto-block supports ensure file sharing over the Internet is well protected.
Another feature that is perfect for home and small office users is EZ-Internet wizard that guides them through the steps necessary to establish remote Internet access to the DS411j, freeing users from complex port forwarding configuration and management. Not only does DSM 3.0 offer abundant features, it is also the first NAS operating system providing multitasking web UI, yielding easy and rapid file transfer, and increasing working efficiency.
