Hi all, first post. I am thinking of buying a NAS for home. I'm tired of limping along with external usb and/or esata connected to repurposed laptops, etc, combined with add on devices like Mybookworld.
What I would like (ideally) is something that is fast, at least 4 bays, support iscsi and it would be great if it has dual gigabit. I want to create a layer 2 iscsi network for my lab and use the other nic for the smb stuff.
Does anyone know of a device that is under 600 bucks that would do all of that? |

Hey there, i understand how you feel. My solution would be to construct a cheap but still moderately powerful dedicated computer for your network. You can easily build a decent system or use second hand parts to make a NAS under 600 bucks with all those specifications. Whatever money you have saved you can use for Multiple HDD's perhaps 4x500gb drives, vice versa on size. As for software you can use free software such as FreeNas or Openfiler which both continue to top each other in features, they both have support for iscsi and raid configurations. Give me an email if you have any more questions.
Peace:) |
