Hello there!,
I'm now in the market to get a NAS as I'm getting a second PC in my home.
By Christmas there will proabbly be 3 or 4 PC's as the kids will have one too!
I would like to store all of my music (itunes) and photos (Picasa) on the system, and also be able to take back ups of all the PC/Laptops connected to the network in case of a disaster where I need to recover the PC from the back up.
Use of my USB printer for all the PC's and remote access would be good but not necessary.
My budget is around £200, ideally to include the HDD's as well.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
CB |

Hey There Cliffeybiro
Personally both Qnap and Synology make good NAS Systems. However for your budget i don't see how you could accomplish all these things you defined unless you are willing to try some other options. Perhaps looking into custom building a pc and turning it into a dedicated NAS and putting free software on like Free Nas, Open-Filer, Open Suse etc and if your family is into windows side of things use Windows Home Server (WHS) Which is a great OS for starters. Like i said before unless your willing to spend a little bit more on Pre Built Nas systems then this is really only your other choice, plus the benefits on building your own is that you will defiantly get better performance in most aspects CPU/RAM/W/R Speeds will almost always be faster on a custom machine rather than a pre build NAS and Cheaper:D Hit me back if you need any help on this:)
Peace:) |
